What is RIIS?

The ROPME Integrated Information System (RIIS) is a web-based platform for storing, organising and sharing information about the RSA and ROPME technical data. It was originally designed with 4 modules however, with the advent of emerging challenges facing the global environment particularly the RSA, ROPME has added additional modules to accommodate new data on the latest studies and activities in the RSA.

The new ROPME portal is a transformation from a predominantly spatial application to a more friendly interface of informative maps, graphs, tables, images and texts that could generate more interest on the RSA and cater to a wider audience of non-scientific users. On the other hand, the core historical scientific data which ROPME accumulated through the years will be made available to institutional partners, experts and scientists for the analyses of the RSA’s marine environment in the past and in the future.

What is RSA?

ROPME Sea Area  is the sea area surrounded by the eight Member States of ROPME: Bahrain, I.R. Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates

Oceanographic Cruises

Contaminant Screening

A basin-wide shore sampling programme to ascertain the status of water, sediment and biota of the coastal areas within the RSA

Remote Sensing Images

A list of processed RS images compiled by ROPME’s RS Unit for routine monitoring of marine and coastal environments of the RSA

Country Profiles

A narrative description of the geography, climate, biodiversity, wildlife and natural landscape of ROPME’s Member States

Experts and Institutions

A dynamic listing of experts, scientists and partner institutions of ROPME who contribute to the management of the RSA

Technical and Meeting Reports

An archive of technical and meeting documents prepared by ROPME and collaborators for reference and future studies

Climate Change in the RSA

Studies on the changes in temperature, salinity, oxygen, pH, sea level and cyclone activity in the RSA shows the threat in the marine and coastal ecosystems

Biodiversity in the RSA

Biodiversity in the RSA consists of a number of different individual species of organisms living in a variety of marine ecosystems

Protection of Marine Biodiversity

Biodiversity in the RSA consists of a number of different individual species of organisms living in a variety of marine ecosystems. They live in habitat ranging from exposed beaches to the open sea environment which includes the benthic deep and shallow subtidal habitats, intertidal habitats; rocky, sandy and muddy shores; pelagic, mesopelagic and demersal habitats.
